Empty Space
Since then, molasses creeps down the hill
threatening to overrun our village.
The anchors wonder if time still matters
while she keeps bleeding in the bathroom.
Every dream we had for our son’s brother
exists in constellations now, and
we’re not running out of rockets but rather
other planets to feel sad on.
So we stack sandbags around the house
and stock up on waffles. I use my last fuel
on the lawn and crumple all the dollars
I have left. Finally I stop asking ask her
if she needs coffee. I just turn on the pot,
spill the sugar, and weep.
