filling
today, i eat sadness like honeydew gone bad
hoveling soft bites in greedy breaths
its too-ripe flesh pressing against my tongue
tasting of bitter dream &
fresh laundry
but as with a sip of air
it leaves me hungrier
my belly a broken promise
the past an unfinished meal
tomorrow, i’ll pet love like a calico
feel its lovely fur against bitten fingers
a tail curled around my embrace
i’ll coax it to sleep with a prayer
hoping for us to
